This year, ESFF and The Welcoming have collaborated to create a creative workshop that highlights the richness of the many languages spoken by beneficiaries of all ages and backgrounds, and how these languages connect to their cultures, memories and sense of belonging in Edinburgh. Participants will be invited to reflect on their linguistic journeys and to create a personal “language portrait” combining colours, words and small cultural symbols that represent the different languages in their lives.
Through simple guided activities, participants will explore how their home languages can help build friendships, open professional opportunities and strengthen their sense of belonging in Edinburgh. At the end of the workshop, all portraits will be brought together in a collective display, celebrating the diversity
of languages and cultures within The Welcoming community and reinforcing the ESFF’s commitment to welcoming migrants, refugees and asylum seekers to our city.
