We are proud to engage volunteers at the heart of our Festival.
Volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds, with just a passion for film, festivals and Spanish culture, to join our team and benefit from the environment.
We have a high rate of return from volunteers, with some becoming part of our team. Volunteers at film festivals is an international tradition, and a fantastic way to connect with the community on a different level.
The debate around the ethics of volunteers at Festivals is very important and one in which we engage and from which we try to learn. We provide what we believe to be a positive and equal exchange for labour, in experience and exposure to the industry, high-quality food and drink, opportunities to watch the programmed films of their choice for free and meet the creatives behind the films. We offer opportunities to volunteer for purely the festival delivery period, or longer-term commitments to see more aspects of the festival organisation.
We deliver a specific set of expectations at the beginning of the Festival, so that they feel that they understand well what is desired of them. There is ample opportunity to raise any concerns or additional requirements and adjustments for individuals.
We have hands-on Volunteer Coordinators whose role is to liaise with volunteers and ensure their wellbeing during their engagement with us.
We understand that volunteering labour is a privilege and not possible for many due to socio-economic barriers. We take into account the engaged individual’s caregiving commitments, and have a schedule that is flexible and can work around individual’s working or studying hours.
