The Disenchantment

Two decades after the death of the Falangist poet Leopoldo Panero, his widow Felicidad Blanc and their three sons, Juan Luis, Leopoldo María and Michi, gather in the old family home in Astorga to intertwine their memories on camera. Through their conversations, the film exposes the hypocrisy, lack of communication and underlying tensions that shaped their family relationships under the shadow of Franco’s regime. This starkly intimate documentary becomes a symbol of the “disenchantment” of Spain’s democratic transition, portraying the decadence of the Francoist bourgeois family and the inescapable weight of a shared past.
