It is the late 1980s, and a group of fathers from the working-class periphery of Bilbao in northern Spain, are suddenly faced with a challenge, which, though completely disinterested, they must affront. Their daughters are all involved with a rhythmic gymnastics group, preparing for an important competition to be held in Berlin, which they are all eager to attend. As the mothers, busy working, cannot accompany them, los aitas - the fathers, in Basque - are left to the task. The resulting portrayal of fatherhood is both tender and filled with laughs, which is to be expected when leaving a group of fathers to chaperone a group of girls, who, it appears, often seem to be much more aware of what is going on around them.Trigger warnings: Contains scenes depicting alcohol consumption, and mild physical and verbal violence.Q&A and Intro by Professor Santiago Fouz Durham University
Cobeaga continues to practice his comedy as popular as it is incisive, always very funny and attentive to those minuscule but important details in the relationships between his characters.” Quim Casas, Diario El Periódico
