The Shortest Evening

The Edinburgh Spanish Film Festival is sending out an open call to all filmmakers for short-film submissions, the best of which will be shown at The Shortest Evening event as part of the ESFF. The event was made in order to spread the works of novice filmmakers within the festival.

Entry requirements:

• We will accept any narrative fiction or documentary film of Spanish theme or origin.
• It should be no longer than 20 minutes, with a minimum duration of 1 minute.
• Films welcome in any language although those not in English should provide English subtitles.
• Some of the short-films could be shown before the screening of the selected films for the ESFF, at the Filmhouse.
• Have been produced in the 24 months prior to the start of the Festival.
• It must not have been shown in Edinburgh before (with the exception of the competitions organised by the local Cinemas and the Film students’ final project screenings organised by the different Universities and Colleges of Edinburgh).
• Entrants must be aged 18 or over
• The closing date will be Friday 10th of July 2016.
• The film should be uploaded to a web-based video sharing site (eg: YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion) with the URL link submitted via email to info.esff @ed.ac.uk Att: Angélica Saludes. The Shortest Evening 2016.
• The films selected will forward a copy of the film (Mov or Mp4 file. Size: 1920 x 1080 Full HD) by Wetransfer or Dropbox to info.esff @ed.ac.uk Att: Angélica Saludes.
• The selected films should attach:
  • Title (and translation into English);
  • A synopsis of no more than 4 lines (in English if possible);
  • Film duration;
  • Still photographs of the production (Could be the official poster or a frame of the film).

Terms and Conditions:

1. It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that their film can be viewed via the link submitted.
2. It is the entrant’s responsibility to ensure that their film would not be available for the public via Internet at least three months before the Festival. However the organization is agree if the film would be shown in other festival, on the condition that it should not take place in Edinburgh.
3. Closing time for entries is 5pm on Friday 10th of July 2016. Submissions received after this time will not be considered.
4. Films must be a maximum of 20 minutes long in duration, including credits.
5. The ESFF will not show any film that breaches any third party copyright. Production music licensed through the Mechanical-Copyright Protection Society (MCPS) may be used, but the entrant must ensure that they have gained the relevant clearances. The ESFF accepts no liability if entrants ignore these rules and entrants agree to indemnify fully the ESFF against any claims by any third party arising from any breach of these rules.
6. The films must not give undue prominence to trademarked products, including logos, toys and recognisable film characters.
7. The ESFF is not responsible for any of the video sharing websites or platforms that may be used for this competition. It is the sole responsibility of the entrant to ensure they have satisfied all the requirements of the third party site used. Including but not limited to copyright clearance for use of that site. The ESFF shall not be liable for any breach by an entrant of any rule, term or condition of any third party site used to participate in this competition and entrants fully indemnify the ESFF against any claims by any third party arising from any such breach.
8. By entering the competition, entrants warrant that they have legal capacity to enter the competition and agree to be bound by these Rules.
