Comedy
By day, Norberto and Maria live an apparently normal life among friends and neighbours in their working-class neighbourhood. They’ve been married forever, but they’re hiding a secret. At night, as a way to bulk out their meagre pensions, Norberto dresses up as a woman and carries out small-scale robberies, while Maria waits for him in the getaway car. But, to everyone’s shock, the disguise that Norberto uses to hide his identity is, in fact, the means by which he is able to express his true self: Norberta. After finally confessing to Maria, their long-lasting relationship encounters its biggest hurdle yet. At 65, Norberta’s world comes crashing down, as she fights to win the acceptance of others, and even, at times, of herself. Now, if Norberta is to fulfil her dream of having a very expensive sex-change operation, she will need all her friends to rally around her for the biggest heist of their lives: robbing the bingo hall. Content warnings: Some mild scenes of violence, mild sex references

Reviews

Luis Bermejo is colossal and exceptional (...) The best part: the sense of freedom, ease, and anarchy that it proposes. (Juan Pando: Fotogramas)
